This is the Chiang Rai tour we run most often — a small-group join tour that links the seven places most visitors come to Chiang Rai for into one day, with a local guide who lives here. Below are the questions guests ask us most before booking a Chiang Rai day tour.
The day covers the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten), the Black House (Baan Dam), a hill-tribe village where you meet Yao, Akha and Lahu families, the Choui Fong tea plantation, the Golden Triangle viewpoint where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet, and the Opium House. It runs as one sensible loop north from Chiang Rai city, so you are not doubling back.
We collect you from your hotel reception between 08:00 and 08:30, and you are back in Chiang Rai city between 18:00 and 18:30. Pickup and drop-off inside the Chiang Rai city area are included — if your hotel is further out, tell us the name when you book and we will confirm your exact time the evening before.
Hotel pickup and drop-off in Chiang Rai city, an air-conditioned minivan, a professional English-speaking guide, a Thai buffet lunch (vegetarian on request), bottled water through the day and cold towels. Entrance tickets are not included — you pay them at each site so you only pay for what you actually go inside.
White Temple 200 THB, Black House 80 THB and the Opium House 50 THB, so between 330 and 630 THB if you enter everything. The White Temple ticket now includes the Art Cave as well. The Long Neck Karen village is an optional 300 THB. Nothing is compulsory — if you would rather stay outside and enjoy the grounds, that is fine and costs nothing extra.
A maximum of 9 guests in one air-conditioned minivan. It is a small-group join tour, not a coach tour, so there is time to walk around each stop properly and to actually ask your guide questions.
We take bookings up to 20:00 the evening before, subject to seats. Same-day requests are sometimes possible if the vehicle is already running — message us and we will tell you honestly whether we can fit you in rather than leaving you waiting.
Shoulders and knees covered for the temples, comfortable shoes for walking, sun protection, and a light jacket in the cool season from November to February. You do not need your passport — the Golden Triangle is viewed from the Thai side and there is no border crossing on this tour.
Yes. If you would rather travel on your own schedule, or combine Chiang Rai with Chiang Mai and the wider north, we run private day tours and multi-day itineraries as a TAT-licensed local operator based here in Chiang Rai.
